Questions? Maybe these will help!
Is this for children or adults?
Caregivers supporting AAC users of any age and ability level will benefit from this program. AAC users are welcome to come (and receive free registration with an adult) but the material will be customized toward caregiver supports. Input from AAC users will be very welcomed.
Can I get a receipt for my payment?
Yes, receipts are available upon request.
Do I have to sign up for all four sessions?
No, you can attend 1, 2, 3 or 4 sessions.
I can't afford $50 for a session.
We never want finances to be a stumbling block. We have limited number of scholarships available, please email us at bonnie@connectslp.ca if you'd like to request a scholarship.
what communication system is this series for?
Discussion will be about principles of AAC that apply across any augmentative and alternative communication system.
My child doesn't have an ipad, will this still be useful?
Yes, communication can and should be supported by non-tech and tech solutions.
what if my child can say some words?
AAC is helpful for many people, with varying levels of verbal speech. In addition, some people aren't able to use their verbal speech when they are dysregulated or in specific situations and AAC can be a helpful support in those scenarios.
my child hates their aac, is there any hope for us?
Yes! That's one of the main motivations for this series of training and encouragement sessions. The 4th session will especially focus on strategies that may be helpful when the child appears to reject any AAC strategies.
Can caregivers (non-guardian) attend these sessions?
Yes, this series will be helpful for anyone who wants to support an AAC user and improve communication with others. Confidentiality is respectfully requested and will be strictly maintained during the sessions.
I have other questions!
Please email us with any questions or for clarification on the sessions!
